Hi! Greetings from Gainesville, Georgia! We’re three weeks in, with three weeks to go! I’m out here living my best life and wanted you to be able to come along with me! So here’s a day in the life of Syd in Georgia 😀

7:00 – Wake up to the morning sun shining on my tent! Tent life has been so much better than I ever could have imagined. I genuinely love my space and soaking up all the nature around me each day. Not to mention, the Georgia weather is unbeatable!

Every morning, I start with reading one of the Psalms of Ascent from the Message paraphrase! Today I read Psalm 122 🙂

7:15 – I check my Whoop recovery and get on my merry way (Today I was 47% recovered!). I won’t lie, getting dressed in a tent is difficult, but it’s not impossible.

8:00 – Breakfast! Special shout-out to the AIM kitchen that feeds me such delicious food day in and day out! I also say hi and good morning to the rest of Gap.

9:00 – Then it’s devotional time. I jump back into the Psalm I started reading when I first woke up, read it in the ESV, and then open up my devotional book about the Psalms of Ascent. It’s called A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, by Eugene Peterson (author of the Message paraphrase), and is a great book recommendation about being a follower of Jesus if you’re in need of one!:))

10:00 – The beginning of our first session of the day. Monday through Friday, we hear speakers on numerous different and vital topics! In some of my favorite teachings, we heard about the Holy Spirit, giving honor, and guilt & shame from a wonderful woman called Rosie!

After our morning session, we debrief (essentially, discuss and digest) as a team before heading to do some campus chores.

12:30 – Lunch time! Another shout-out for the AIM kitchen because they deserve it!

1:00 – Free time, baby! For the net couple of hours, we get to do whatever we want! It usually consists of playing volleyball or spikeball outside, some super fun card games, or silly conversations.

3:00 – Squad time! This is one of my favorite parts of the day. During squad time, we get to bond through different activities each day, based on the day’s theme. We have: move yo body Mondays, fundraising on Tuesdays/Thursdays, Wednesday storytelling, and squad fun Fridays! Getting to know my squad has been the coolest and the most fun<3

5:00 – Dinner! Yet another shout-out for the AIM kitchen! Y’all are the best of the best!

6:00 – It’s team time! Within our squad of 47, we have smaller teams of around 6 people that become our immediate family. My team is called Team Tov! It’s the Hebrew word for “good” that is used throughout Genesis and the Creation Narrative. The definition in Hebrew is less of an adjective/used in a superlative way… tov is something that you do, it’s part of your being. It’s a reminder of the ways God calls us to do “tov,” to turn from the broken ways of the world and take up a compassionate commitment to delight in the souls of others and to will their good ahead of our own!

7:00 – The rest of the night is ours! I love spending time with my squad in the evenings. We watch movies and worship and talk and dance and do life together. I’m so extremely thankful for this community in this moment. <3

& Each night before bed I journal and read some scripture and pray through the processing of my day with God!

11:00 – Lights out. Do it all again tomorrow!

  1. Sydney, I am so excited for. You a special young lady and I am praying God continues to bless you to grow in His Word and your relationship with Him. I am believing God’s word with you:

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
    ??Jeremiah? ?29:11? ?NKJV??

“Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
    ??Jeremiah? ?29:12-13? ?NKJV??

  8. Sydney, I’ve been waiting for someone on your team to explain the meaning of TOV! Thanks! I love this: “to turn from the broken ways of the world and take up a compassionate commitment to delight in the souls of others and to will their good ahead of our own.” I’m gonna chew on that a bit and ask the Lord how I can better walk in a “tov” kind-of “good.”
    Bless you!
